The monumental moments in our lives would not be half as exciting without the people we love by our side to help us celebrate. Bob Goff once said, “It’s not what you do, it’s who you do it with that matters.”
I have come to know this to be true in my own life! It’s why we can sit at home with friends or family doing absolutely nothing and still have a great time.
One of the most special events that can happen in a person’s life is their wedding day. Part of what makes that day so significant for the bride is her daddy walking her down the aisle to her new love!
Unfortunately, 23-year-old Emily was not able to experience being given away by her father to her groom. Her father passed away from cancer when she was just 8 years old.
As sad as it was to not have her father next to her on her big day, she was encouraged when she received a surprise from him anyway! It was a letter he had written to her just 20 days before he passed away. In the letter he expressed his joy about her wedding day.
Emily was not expecting this at all, and her eyes overflowed with tears as she embraced his kind and loving words read aloud by her uncle Peter.
“You are my heart and soul, and always will be,” the letter said. “I remember when you were just starting to walk and what it would mean to walk you down the aisle.”
Emily’s father had given the letter to her mother for safekeeping, and she had kept it safe and hidden until this very moment! Though he was not there physically, hearing his words and feeling him in her heart meant everything to Emily on her special day.
What a blessing and a treasure that Emily’s dad was thinking ahead enough to write such a heartwarming message to his daughter for a day that she would need it most.
Congratulations on your marriage, Emily! We wish you and your husband all the best!
